012 Ballasted Dual Track Baseplate
This is a variation of the basic ballasted dual track with a much higher level of detailing. The 'MILS' base is fully enclosed, same as I've done before, because I think it looks nicer. I chose a Dark Grey baseplate to represent a layer of bedrock, reddish brown brick layer to represent soil, and topped it with green plates to represent grass.
I wanted the eye to focus on the texture of the ballasting, so I decided to use only Light Grey which creates a nice contrast with the Dark Grey tracks and the Reddish Brown ties. I put a real focus on the rounded plates which adds a nice level of realism to the ballasting edge where it meets the grass.
I've used Tan to represent parts which are not visible during final setup, feel free to substitute any color available. If you want to add more color variation to the ballasting, I would suggest including Dark Grey, Sand Blue, Dark Tan, and Olive Green.
